Configuring Outlook 2010 for Texas A&M Email (Neo)

To configure Microsoft Outlook 2010 for use with the Texas A&M Email (Neo) follow the instructions below. If you become confused or require extra assistance please contact Help Desk Central at 979-845-8300.

 

1) Open Microsoft Outlook 2010

2) From the main page, click on the "File" tab (see Fig. 1)

3) Once you have clicked on "File" you will need to click on the button that says "Add Account" (see Fig. 2)

4) Next, leave the "E-mail Account" bubble checked and enter in the following information:

  • Your Name: Your Name
  • Email Address: yournetid@neo.tamu.edu
  • Password: your NetID password

5) Hit the "Next" button and on the folloing screen click "OK" on the encryption dialog box. Then click "Next" again (see Fig. 3)

6) On the next page click the "Finish" button (see Fig. 4a).

Note: If the account setup fails, at this point, please check the box "Manually configure server settings" (see Fig. 4b) click "Next" and proceed directly to Step 10

7) After the account has been set up, you will need to click on the "File" tab again. On the Account Information page, you will want to choose your account from the drop down list directly under the heading Account Information (note: the Texas A&M Email (Neo) account will be the default account if you have not configured more than one account) (see Fig. 5).

8) Once the Texas A&M Email (Neo) account has been selected, please click on the "Account Settings" button and choose the option "Account Settings" from the drop down menu (See Fig. 6)

9) Highlight the Texas A&M Email (Neo) account from the list under the "E-mail" tab, and then select the button "Change" (See Fig.7)

 10) Fill out the following fields to reflect Figure 9

Your Name: Your Name

E-mail Address: yournetid@neo.tamu.edu

Account Type: IMAP

Incoming Mail Server: mailhost-x.tamu.edu (where you see x, you will need to put your specific mailhost number which can be found by noting your browser web address when logged in at email.tamu.edu. See Fig. A)

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp-relay.tamu.edu

User Name: Your NetID

Password: Your NetID Password

11) After filling in the fields with your personal information, you will need to click on "More Settings..." located in the bottom right-hand corner of the Internet E-mail Settings box.

12) In the dialog box that pops up, you will need to select the "Outgoing Server" tab. After selecting the tab, check the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" (See fig. 10)

13) Next, click on the tab labeled "Advanced" and fill out the information as follows (See fig. 11) :

Incoming server (IMAP): 993

Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL

Outgoing server (SMTP): 465

Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL

NOTE: For Outlook 2010 on Windows 8, the outgoing server settings are different. Use port 587 with encryption type TLS.

14) At this point, your Texas A&M Email (Neo) account should be fully configured for use in the Microsoft Outlook 2010
