Printing Remotely to an OAL Printer in Windows XP

Document ID 136

Introduction

This information describes how to connect to the IPP print queues from Open Access Lab machines, dorms or through VPN.   Currently, IPP printing is only supported in the Blocker, SCC and WCL Open Access Labs as well as the LIBANX and TCC.  Only black and white, letter size printing is available.

Note: Math Labs already have a custom, internal method of printing to these IPP print queues.

The connection strings for the IPP print queues are (case sensitive):

Blocker Open Access Lab:     https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers/bloc-ipp/.printer

Student Computing Center:    https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers/scc-ipp/.printer

West Campus Open Access Lab: https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers/wcl-ipp/.printer

Library Annex:                        https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers/libanx-ipp/.printer

TCC:                                       https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers/tcc/.printer

TCC-Bond:                             https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers/tcc-bond/.printer

TCC-Drilled:                           https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers/tcc-drilled/.printer

TCC-Nondrilled:                     https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers/tcc-nondrilled/.printer

Adding an IPP print queue using Windows XP with Internet Explorer:

1.      To connect to one of the IPP print queues, go to the following Web site:  https://oalinfo.tamu.edu/printers .

2.      For user name, enter your NetID as “netid@TAMU.EDU” (without quotes and TAMU.EDU in uppercase).  For password, enter your NetID password.

3.      After you have successfully logged in, a list of printers appears.  For this example, the WCL printer has been selected (see Figure 1).
