Students living in the dorms on campus have a high-speed Ethernet connection in their rooms. The network created by these connections is collectively termed "ResNet", or "Resident Network". To take advantage of this service, students need to have a network interface card (an Ethernet card), a length of Ethernet cable, and a working Neo account, as your Neo username (NetID) and password will be needed to register your computer on our network.

Visit the HDC Documentation on ResNet registration for more information.

The campus network at Texas A&M University consists of a Gigabit backbone and hundreds of Ethernet LANs. The network connects over 140 buildings, including over 40 residence halls, and has over 25,000 devices attached to it. This backbone infrastructure has recently been upgraded from uplinks of 10 Megabit Ethernet to 100 Megabit Ethernet. Internet access is supplied via 155 Mbps (OC-3) connections to Qwest and the Texas Higher Education Network. TAMU is also a member of the Internet2 project and is connected to its high-speed Abilene network. Three dns servers operate on campus to provide domain name resolution. CIS also maintains three public NTP time servers.

For more information on how to connect your personal computer in your dorm room into our high-speed internet structure please refer to our Resnet Information Site as well as the University's ResLife site.
