Introduction

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition is a virus protection software available free of charge to home users.  The software is provided by Grisoft and can be downloaded at http://www.download.com/3000-2239_4-10695030.html. This document will help you configure and use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition.

This document contains the following sections:

  1.  Configure Automatic Updates and Virus Scans

Configure Automatic Updates and Virus Scans

  1. Open  Start >> All Programs >> AVG 7.5 >> AVG Test Center
  2. Select Scheduler from the pane on the left.(Figure 1)

  1. Select Test plan in basic mode and then Edit Schedule.  (Figure 2)

  1. Check the Periodically start scheduled antivirus test box to schedule a daily virus scan.  (Figure 3)
  2. Select a start time from the drop down menu.
  3. Select OK.

  1. Select Update plan in Basic mode and then Edit Schedule.  (Figure 2)
  2. Check the Periodically check for Internet Updates box to schedule automatic updates.  (Figure 4)
  3. Select a time period for AVG to check the internet for updates from the drop down menu.
  4. Select OK an then Close to return to the AVG Test Center.

Disable E-mail Scanning

E-mail scanning features  will often prevent E-mail clients from working correctly.  If you are having problems with your E-mail client and would like to disable the AVG E-mail scanning feature, please follow these steps.  
  1. Open Start >> All Programs >> AVG 7.5 >> AVG Control Center.  
  2. Select E-mail Scanner from the list of items and then Properties.  (Figure 5)

  1. Select Disable Plugin to disable the E-mail scanner.  (Figure 6)

  1. Select the General tab.  (Figure 7)
  2. Check the Ignore faulty condition of the components box if you would like to disable alert notifications regarding the E-mail scanner status.
  3. Select OK to return to the AVG Control Center.

Run a Virus Scan Manually

  1. Open Start >> All Programs >> AVG 7.5 >> AVG Test Center
  2. Select Scan Computer.  (Figure 8)

  1. Select the Back button to return to the AVG Test Center once the scan is completed.  (Figure 9).

Update AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition Manually

  1. Open Start >> All Programs >> AVG 7.5 >> AVG Test Center.
  2. Select Check for Updates.  (Figure 10)

  1. Select Internet.  (Figure 11)

  1. If you are promted to download any updates, select Update.  (Figure 12)

  1. Select OK to return to the AVG Test Center.
