Configuring Entourage (Mac) for Texas A&M Email (Neo)

Please note: TAMU Email on Zimbra is being discontinued in Fall 2014. Consider setting up Google Apps at Texas A&M instead.

Introduction

Most email clients can easily be configured to access your Texas A&M Email (Neo) account from both on and off campus. Here is how you can configure Microsoft's Entourage 2004 and 2008 for Mac to check your Texas A&M Email (Neo) account. Also included are instructions for using the campus mail servers to send email, regardless of your Internet Service Provider or location. This document assumes that you have not set up Entourage to check Texas A&M Email (Neo) in the past.


Setting up Entourage

The following information is needed to set up Microsoft's Entourage 2004 and 2008 for Mac:

  • Your Name: Your Name

  • Email: YourNetID@neo.tamu.edu

  • Account ID: Your NetID

  • Password: Your NetID password

  • SMTP server: smtp-relay.tamu.edu

  • SMTP port: 587

  • IMAP server: mailhost-x.tamu.edu (Where "x" is specific to your neo email URL) 

  • IMAP port: 993 (If using a POP account, 995)

  • LDAP server: operator.tamu.edu

Note: To find your IMAP server, log into your email account and note the number in your URL. Replace the "x" with this number.

 

1. Go to the "Tools" menu and select Accounts.

 

2. You will now be presented with the "Accounts" window. Under the "Mail" tab, click New.

 

3. On the next page, select IMAP from the "Account type" drop-down menu. Then click OK.

 

4. In the "Account Settings" tab, enter the following information into the corresponding fields:

  • Account name: whatever you wish, usually Neo

  • Personal Information: Your Name and YourNetID@neo.tamu.edu

  • Account ID: your NetID

  • IMAP server: mailhost-x.tamu.edu

  • Password: your NetID password

  • SMTP server: smtp-relay.tamu.edu

Note: Check Save password in my Mac OS keychain if you would like Entourage to remember your password.

 

5. Select Click here for advanced receiving options in the "Receiving mail" section.

 

6. Check the This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL) box in the popup window.

 

7. Enter 993 for the "IMAP port." 

Note: If you are using a POP account, enter 995.

 

8. Select Click here for advanced sending options in the "Sending mail" section.

 

9. Check the SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) box and the Override default SMTP port, and the SMTP server requires authentication box in the popup window.

 

10. Enter 587 for the "SMTP port."

 

11. Select the Use same settings as receiving mail server. If you have trouble sending mail, change this setting by selecting Log on using and entering your NetID and password. 

Note: Check the Save password in my MacOS keychain if you would like Entourage to remember your password if selecting Log on using.

 

12. Click OK and you should now be able to send and receive Texas A&M Email (Neo) through the campus mail servers, regardless of your location.

 

Setting Up Entourage to Use the Texas A&M Directory

 

1. Go to the "Tools" menu and select Accounts.



2. In the "Accounts" window, click New under the "Directory Services" tab.

 

3. Under the "Account Settings" tab, enter whatever you wish as the "Account name."

 

4. Enter operator.tamu.edu for the "LDAP server."

Note: To use a secure connection (SSL), click the Click here for advanced options button, and check the This LDAP server requires a secure connection (SSL) box.

 

5. In the "Options" tab, enter dc=tamu,dc=edu as the Search base, then click OK. Entourage is now set up to search the Texas A&M Directory.
